Simplicissimus

satirical weekly magazine

Simplicissimus ("the simplest") was a satirical weekly magazine that appeared from April 4, 1896 to September 13, 1944. It targeted Wilhelminian politics, bourgeois morality, the churches, civil servants, lawyers and the military.

The new edition, initiated by Olaf Iversen in 1954, brought back the satirical tradition in a new form and remained active until 1967.

Walter Schnackenberg, who designed many of the covers during this period, played an important role in the visual redesign of the magazine, which, although different from the original issue, continued to offer a form of critical reflection on society and politics.
